Book As a Gift

Gift

A Book is an excellent gift for just about every occasion, especially if the receiver likes to read books. However, buying a book for someone else is tougher job than it may seem at a first glance. First of all, people have different reading preferences and secondly, it is necessary to find a book the receiver has not read yet. If you are close with the person whom you would like to buy a book, you can easily find out which books he or she would like to read through casual conversation although there is always the possibility that he or she will go and buy it before you will have the chance to surprise him or her. Nevertheless, it is worth to take the chance because a book is a very personal and very special gift which will most certainly be appreciated.

Buying a book as a gift often poses a risk that the receiver will not like it or even worse, has already read it (unless you know for sure that he or she did not). As a result, many people avoid buying books as a gift, especially if the receiver is a book lover which is the greatest irony. But considering that the most passionate book readers are very critical when it comes to books and often cannot even remember all the books they have read, it actually makes sense. After all, how on earth can you choose a great book for an bibliophile. It would be like buying a flower for a florist. In order to avoid embarrassing situation on both sides, most people therefore buy gifts which are related to book reading rather than a book when the gift is intended for a bibliophile. Some of the most popular gifts for book lovers are therefore artistic bookends, cool bookmarks, reading lamps, etc. However, these gifts which are a great choice as well never achieve the effect of a carefully selected book because no one appreciates books more than bibliophiles.

Gift

As already mentioned earlier, it is a good idea to try to find out about the gift receiver’s reading preferences and books awaiting to be read if you want to show your affection or respect for the person. But even if you do not succeed to find out what you want to hear without revealing your intentions, you can still buy a book and avoid the risk of the receiver not liking it. Bibliophiles are primarily interested in the reading experience, however, they also highly value books as such. For that reason you cannot go wrong with an old and rare book which will have a special place on the receiver’s bookshelf regardless if he or she has already read it or not. Another great idea are special editions but unfortunately, both options are usually quite expensive. So if you do not want or cannot spend several hundreds or even thousands of pounds for a book, you should really try to find out which books the gift receiver would like to read in the near future.
